ABOUT

I was born and raised in Michigan and attended the University of Michigan's School of Art and Design where I earned a BFA in sculpture with an emphasis in metalsmithing.

I come from a family of scientists. Both of my parents are pharmacists and I have an older brother, Andrew, who is a theoretical physicist. Growing up around science and medicine has shaped my work both aesthetically and conceptually. Empathy is a major part of my personality. It is important to me to always try to understand people and situations from multiple perspectives. I have a strong distaste for assumptions and that distaste is one of the driving forces behind my work.

Through my work I hope to give viewers a look into the lives of those who are often misunderstood. During my time at university I was able to study a wide range of subjects but what struck me the most was abnormal psychology. What is considered normal is uninteresting to me. I'm fascinated by the diversity of the world and the odd abnormalities within it. Trauma from illness became the main focus of my studio practice. Deriving from research, literature, and personal experiences I try to help others understand the experience of losing control of the body.

I currently live and work in Tucson, Arizona.
